DISK CONTROLLER
DISK CONTROLLER FEATURES
- Supports up to 300 Mb/s R/W channel bit rate
- ID-FREE™ Architecture (IFA) requires no tables
- Defect FIFO
- External servo controller interface
SYSTEM OVERVIEW
The Disk controller block controls all read/write functions to the disk. For timing control, it interfaces with the Servo block. The Servo block uses a timer in conjunction with servo data read from the disk, and provides a timing reference for user data accesses. User data is taken from the buffer through the DICE block where ECC bytes are appended, and sent to the Channel chip. Similarly, during read operations, user data is read through the Channel chip and passed to the DICE block for error correction before being stored in the data buffer.
The Servo block also provides important safety functions, including stopping write operations when a mechanical error occurs
DISK CONTROLLER BLOCK OVERVIEW
The Disk Controller integrates a data sequencer, an ID-FREETM formatter and a defect FIFO. The serializer/deserializer generates the byte-rate clock according to the bit width of the NRZ data, and supports a maximum byte rate of 37.5 MHz. The Disk Controller is designed for ease of use, with minimal firmware overhead.
